Catalog Living

What a great blog!

Simple, straightforward, stylish AND sarcastic. It's described as "a look into the exciting lives of the people who live in your catalogs."
You MUST immediately go to this post to see the caption for this photo. It will take all of two seconds and you might get a chuckle.
And maybe a new favorite blog to stalk.

Inspiration

Creativity and inspiration are the two things that continue to remind me how lacking I am in the area of free time or personal time. I have two small girls, 2 1/2 and 7 months old, that don't really allow me to complete, or even begin all the ideas that I come up with or find from other bloggers.
I just had my own little lightning bolt of inspiration and I really hope I can get around to doing it. I've been thinking about painting furniture. I get this e-newsletter from The Inspired Room and there's always painted furniture on there. Everybody's doing it, but I don't have anything I want to risk painting, except that rocking horse Grandpa made for the girls that's just bare wood and needs painting and the shelf he also made them that I've been supposed to paint for a couple months now... but besides those. You know, like real furniture pieces.
Ok, now that I've managed to build this up way too much and get you much too hopeful for something fantastic, I might let you down.
My amazing idea was to paint the tray tables (there are now only 3 from the original set of 4... don't ask) I've had since college. Isn't that a stroke of genius? in a very small way? They are that terrible (no offense if you like this) light oak color that I used to love, but now, not so much. I've never seen colored tray tables. How unique!
I'll show you for sure if I ever get the chance to do them.
After I do the rocking horse and the shelf...

Milestones on the Wall

Even checking one small thing off a mammoth to-do list feels good sometimes. I felt that small sense of accomplishment today when I completed one of our "milestone" shadowboxes. I haven't the faintest idea where I found the inspiration for these, but I am completely taken with the idea of creating a shadowbox or framing something that represents the milestones in your life as a couple.

I made my first one before I even came across the idea. I made a shadowbox after our wedding that included the postcards of Savannah (the city we were engaged in) that were laying on tables at our reception, the card from which we read our vows and our cake topper.

After I read about making milestone markers and hanging them in a special place in your home to remind you of a history you've created together, I knew the next one would be for Eden's birth. After we brought her home from the hospital, I went out and bought the frame and took her tiny hospital issue t-shirt and tried to velcro it in there. I was never happy with it and it's never made it up to the wall.

Today, I finally finished it properly with several strategically placed straight pins. I added a couple of things so the shirt wasn't so lonely and I'm so pleased it's done. I can't wait to get Arielle's completed as well!
Sorry this pic is awful.  I took it with my iPhone...

Along with Arielle's, I'm also planning on doing one to mark our recent beach trip, our first as a family of four and one that taught us quite a bit about how different vacations are when it's not just the two of you any more.

All Things Creative

Since this blog is definitely expanding beyond just sewing and re-purposing (partially because I just don't have the time to do the sewing projects I planned on posting here), I wanted to share another inspiring, creative blog of a different kind. A friend of mine is planning her wedding and she wants to make sure every single aspect is personal and particularly special. She's only planning on doing this once and she's not going to settle for anything "typical." If you enjoy event planning, weddings, parties, photography or fashion, you might want to browse her blog. She's a great idea gatherer and collects some of the best to post.
Go meet Jennifer Boozer at Jenn and the Giant Peach. Enjoy!

Words of Art

Vinyl lettering is such a non-committal form of decorating and I've wanted some on my wall for some time now, but I can never get inspired by the sayings available pre-made. If you like customization as much as I do, you'll love this site. The Simple Stencil isn't cheap, but it seems to be on par with most prices I've seen. Customization is never cheap, right? Every stencil they make, even the pre-designed ones are customizable. You can pick your color and size to fit your space and decor.
The only problem now is that I can't choose just one from all the verses and sayings I like.

Thrifty Bragging

I don't know if this belongs here or not, but I guess I can decide what belongs here, huh?
I just wanted to brag about how much this outfit cost me.

Shirt - Walmart clearance (really, it's from Walmart, can you believe it?) - $7
Belt - Goodwill - $1
Skirt - Target clearance - $6
Shoes - Goodwill - $4

So I won't rub it in, you add it up. ;)
