Lisette Traveler Dress - View C

My adoration of Michael Miller's script fabric from his Antiquity line is now all sewn up in this dress.
This is the second time I have used this pattern (Simplicity 2246).  My first attempt was for View B and this dress is View C and my definite favorite.
There's so much to gush about when it comes to this dress.  Are you ready for the love fest?  Here goes.
I love the little puffed sleeves, just enough gathering to make the cutest little puff you've ever seen.
I love how the darts fit me.  I was so concerned I'd have to make some sort of adjustment for my small bust,  an adjustment which I really didn't have the slightest idea how to make, but I didn't need one at all!
I love the tips on how to make the darts lay flat.  I was really concerned about the possibility of a pucker at the end of them, especially in the back, but there's no pucker.  yay!
I love the skirt.  It's flat in the front on either side of the button placket and then gathered the rest of the way around.  Easy to attach and flattering.

I would probably love the collar if I hadn't sewn it on upside-down (one and a half hours of botched work!!), but I think only you and me will know about that.  I'm pretty sure no one else will really notice.

PS.  My original post about my plans for this dress is here.  I still want to make one in bold colors like I originally intended... maybe with some simple bias tape around the collar.  :)

  1. I'm getting ready to make a View B of the Traveler Dress, and I wasn't too sure about the "C" when I saw it at first. This is totally cute though - I may try this view later on... I'm liking it all in one fabric, too. Thanks for sharing! :)

  3. Sara- I am so into sewing for myself now! You'll be seeing one of those Cynthia Rowley patterns you sent me soon, I hope. I can't decide which to tackle first.

  4. I love everything about this dress, the fabric, the style and yes even the upside down collar. I have made that mistake before. I am always leery of sewing for myself, but this dress inspires.

  6. That is so gorgeous -- I love the fabric and the whole idea of having words on a dress!

  8. This is so beautiful! I just made my daughter Oliver + S' Jump Rope dress which is a mini version of your Traveller's (you can see it in my blog). I hope I can find a pattern like yours so I can make a mother daughter combo (make one for me too!). But the shipping costs are too much to ship to the place I live.

P.S. I didn't see the upside down collar. I also love your other version, the blue chambray one.

  9. I'm just about to start this dress. Got fabric today after seeing your version... Notice the dress pattern has 5 inches of ease built into my bust size. Did you size down at all to make up for this as I notice yours seems to be worn with much less ease even though you mention not doing a bust adjustment.

  10. When I sewed this dress, I knew nothing about finished garment measurements or ease and I was really just hoping it would fit me ok. I am a size 31 bust and made the smallest size (6) and made no adjustments. You definitely need some ease in a shirt dress so you can move your arms and not make the buttons pull. It was just right for me. Hope that helps!
